How to Prepare for a Full Day Tattoo Session
A full day tattoo session is one of those experiences that stays with you long after the ink settles. Whether it’s the start of a sleeve, a large back piece, or a statement work you’ve been planning for years — the way you prepare makes a real difference. Not just to your comfort, but to the quality of what we create together.
Here’s everything you need to know before you arrive.
The Night Before
Get a good night’s sleep. Aim for at least 7–8 hours. Have a proper meal before bed — nothing heavy, but don’t skip it. Keep drinking water throughout the evening and make sure you’re well hydrated going in.
The Morning of Your Session
Have a solid breakfast before you come in. Something with protein and slow-release carbs will keep your energy steady through the day. Snacks and refreshments are provided throughout your session, but coming in well-fuelled makes a real difference. Long sessions can be demanding on the body and blood sugar dips are real.
Your session runs from 9:30 AM, with a lunch break included. We’ll typically finish by 2:30 or 4:30 PM depending on your booking.
Your Skin Needs to Be Ready
Start moisturising the area at least two weeks before your appointment — but not on the day itself. Healthy, well-moisturised skin takes ink more cleanly and heals better.
In the days leading up, check the area carefully. No sunburn, no scratches, no active rashes. Damaged skin cannot be tattooed — if it isn’t in good condition on the day, the appointment may need to be rescheduled.
On the Day
Only you should attend. I work in a focused environment, and additional guests during the tattooing process aren’t something I accommodate unless there is a genuine medical reason.
Be honest if you’re struggling. Long sessions are intense, and that’s completely normal. I’d always rather take a short break than push through and compromise the result.
After Your Session
You’ll leave wrapped in Tattoo Armour to protect the fresh work overnight. The following morning, remove the wrap and wash the tattoo thoroughly with the soap provided. Full aftercare instructions will be emailed to you the day after your session — including everything you need to know about moisturising, exercise, sun exposure, and swimming.
Full aftercare guidance is also on the aftercare page — worth a read before your appointment so you know what to expect.
Ready to Book?
A full day session starts with a free 15–20 minute consultation — in person or on a video call. We’ll talk through your project, look at placement, and map out how many sessions your piece will need.
